(tragedy and triumph)

At the tachi-ai or initial charge, Tochinishiki quickly got his favorite left hand inside grip and drove his long time rival out by yorikiri, frontal force out, winning his ninth top division title with his first perfect 15-0 record. On the previous day after Tochinishiki had already locked up the championship with a victory over ozeki Kotogahama, his father died as a result of a traffic accident making that last day victory a bittersweet one.

Tochinishiki quickly got a left hand inside grip and drove his much taller opponent back and out by yorikiri or frontal force out, enabling him to finish his tenth title winning tournament with an outstanding 14-1 record. He opened the following tournament with his 500th top division victory.
