1942 May Basho, 14th day
Terukuni vs. Futabayama

(earning promotion to yokozuna )

After an outstanding 12-3 record in his ozeki debut the previous basho, Terukuni was 11-2 going into his 14th day bout against the legendary yokozuna Futabayama. Terukuni took that match with a last-ditch, right handed shitatenage or underarm throw. Winning the following day as well, the ozeki finished with a spectacular championship-tying 13-2 record, earning him promotion to yokozuna after only two basho at ozeki.

1951 May Basho, final day
Terukuni vs. Azumafuji

(a perfect tourney title)

Terukuni entered his last day bout following victories over ozeki Chiyonoyama on the 13th day and senior yokozuna Haguroyama on the 14th.
Undefeated going into that final bout, he made quick work of another yokozuna, Azumafuji, by yorikiri or frontal force out. That win allowed him to follow his first top division tournament championship in the previous basho with a perfect 15-0 title.
