1968 July Basho, 14th day
Kotozakura vs. Tamanoshima (later Tamanoumi)
(Kotozakura's first championship)
Kotozakura, leading with his head at the tachi-ai or initial
charge, quickly got a left hand outside grip. Turning his inside
right hand down to prevent his fellow ozeki from getting
his own outside grip, Kotozakura then lifted Tamanoumi high into
the air and carried him out by tsuridashi (lift out). That
victory enabled Kotozakura to lock up his first top division title.

1973 July Basho, 15th and final day
Takanosato vs. Kitanoumi
(play-off victory earns Kotozakura his fifth and final championship)
After fifteen days of action, Kotozakura found himself tied with
fellow yokozuna Kitanofuji at 14-1. In their play-off, Kotozakura
quickly got a left hand inside grip with his right hand on the front
of his opponent's mawashi. When Kitanofuji attempted to work
his left hand in, Kotozakura responded by pushing with his right
hand at Kitanofuji's armpit. From this position, he was able to
drive him out by yorikiri or frontal force out. That victory
earned Kotozakura his first, and last, top division title as a yokozuna.
