1947 November Basho, final day
Haguroyama vs. Terukuni
(the winning streak continues)
With his closest rival in the title race losing in an earlier match, Haguroyama
was looking to lock up the championship with a win in this bout against fellow
yokozuna Terukuni. In a display of real power sumo, that's exactly
what he did, defeating Terukuni by tsuridashi or lift out. That enabled
him to finish with a 10-1 record for his 4th consecutive top division title, 6th
overall. |

1952 January Basho, final day
Haguroyama vs. Chiyonoyama
(another perfect tourney title)
Haguroyama was undefeated going into the final day as he faced newly promoted
yokozuna Chiyonoyama, one loss off the pace. In another display of the
kind of powerful sumo for which he was famous, Haguroyama defeated his junior
with a shitatenage, underarm throw, for a perfect 15-0 record. That was
to be his 7th and final top division championship, 4th with a perfect record. |
