1949 October Basho, final day
Chiyonoyama vs. Kamikaze
(first top division championship)
This was Chiyonoyama's first tournament ranked at ozeki.
In spite of Kamikaze's reputation as an aggressive technician, Chiyonoyama
calmly took his smaller opponent's best shot and, from a right hand
inside grip, quickly drove him out by yorikiri or frontal
force out. With his two rivals in the title race dropping their
last matches on that last day, Chiyonoyama was able to take his
first top division title with a fine 13-2 record.

1957 January Basho, final day
Chiyonoyama vs. Matsunobori
(a perfect title)
Matsunobori came in low and hard, leading with his head at the tachi-ai
or initial charge. Chiyonoyama, quickly noting that the ozeki
had over committed himself, shifted to the right and dropped him
with a tsukiotoshi or thrust down. That victory allowed the
yokozuna to take his sixth and final top division championship
with a perfect 15-0 record.
